Art of Being a Gentleman

The man you want to be

Gentleman loves what he does

When it comes to his work, a gentleman is passionate about working seven days a week, year after year. He could be seventy years old and still be found working sixteen hours straight in addition to days of no rest. To him, there is nothing more pleasurable than to be a part of the hunt.

He understands that he can’t have it all

Every worth goal or dream has a “pay-price-to-action”, it means that a gentleman must give up something in order to get something in return. He is willing to sacrifice what others won’t. Like the great Muhammad Ali once said in regards to his time spent training, “Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.”

He knows the sky is the limit

Just when you think you’re thinking big, it’s truthfully too small. Just when you believe you’re setting higher expectations for yourself, you’re selling yourself too short. A gentleman must dream big, think big and be big.

To Your Girlfriend

And Keep Her Happy

Don’t keep her waiting.

Punctuality goes a long way when you are trying to become a gentleman. Tardiness is never smiled upon especially when it is on your anniversary date! Just think about your girlfriend, waiting alone in the restaurant, checking her watch, and wondering where you are. It is never polite to make someone wait because being on time is an important way of showing other people that you respect their time.

Pay attention to your girlfriend.

Your girlfriend is not your trophy. She is not there for your pleasure nor for you to display her and polish her whenever you want to. A true gentleman respects his girlfriend, more importantly, he pays attention to her. He listens to what she needs or what she wants to talk about. No matter how busy he may seem, the true gentleman will set aside time for the one he loves.

Protect her at all times.

And finally, the true gentleman shields his lady from harm. He makes sure that she is protected at all times, whether it may be physical, mental or emotional. He will never allow another person to harass his girlfriend nor will he ever allow himself the one to emotionally inflict pain upon his girlfriend. A gentleman will always see to it that his lady is well taken care, disregarding himself and putting her first.

Tips for Being a Modern Gentleman

The opposite of the nice guy

If You Do Nothing Else, Just Keep Your Radar Up.

Gentlemen have a sixth sense. They recognize situations that may require them to swoop in and save the day. That woman with the baby stroller? She might need a door held. That man with the walker? He might need a hand navigating those steps. You’re thirsty waiting for dinner to come? Then it’s likely everyone else at your table is too.

Call Women You Don’t Know “Miss” or “Ma’am” Until They Tell You Otherwise.

The age of using pet names with women you don’t know is long over. While some women will still call you “love,” “sweetie,” or “doll” (especially those working in hospitality) you don’t get to do the same until you have established some level of familiarity.

Dress for the Occasion.

Entire volumes have been written on this topic, so I will be brief. When invited to someone’s special party, scan the invitation for a dress code, and then stick to it. Contrary to you thinking you’re “not a suit guy,” it is a terrible display of disrespect to show up to a semi-formal wedding in slacks and a button down.
